The largest city (200,000 strong) on the rail route between the Twin Cities and Spokane, Fargo is a favorite.Billings is about 60,000 behind in population. I stayed south of I-94 in an all new neighborhood of restaurants, schools, stores and hospitals. Go to www.facebook.com/bridgeoverthevalley for the photos. Barnes & Noble has brisk business and folks here are into books. I enjoyed the signing and when I wasn't busily engaged with readers I enjoyed talking to the "nook" sales persons who stood faithfully in their kiosk describing the amazing nook reader. Tarver is in an MFA writing program and a soon-to-be novelist. We exchanged a lot of information. Oh! I did sell 6 books in two hours. The store manager said they sold 4 the day before and some sell every day. At 7 pm I signed the remaining inventory about 25 books left unsold in the store. The staff felt that they would sell quickly. I wanted to sell more but the staff is happy about the sales so far. Some customers took book marks promising to come back when they had finished reading the books already in their stack. I left very upbeat about sales so far. I stopped at the new library not far from the hotel and left them a complimentary copy. The librarian was thrilled. I loved getting around town photographing some of the places that were locations in the story. Now it is off to Valley City.
